About the Instructor
Will Terry has been a freelance illustrator for 26 years. He got his start working for magazines and newspapers in the Washington D.C. area. His early clients include publications such as Time, Money, WSJ and ads for Sprint, Pizza Hut, Fed Ex, and Master Card. He has illustrated about 30 children’s books for a number of publishers, including Random House, Simon & Schuster, Scholastic, and Penguin. When he's not mountain biking, hiking, or snowboarding he works out of the svslearn.com office in Provo Utah.
Art crit. The very words strike fear in hearts of art students
everywhere. But you can't truly grow as an artist unless you learn how
to take the dreaded crit in stride. As the writer Norman Vincent Peale
once said, "The trouble with most of us is that we would rather be
ruined by praise than saved by criticism."
This critique was
originally held in April 2016. Pro illustrators Lee
White and Will Terry critiqued the personal work of 10 SVS students. Each student
submitted one illustration for critique. This is the recorded version of that class.
Follow along as Lee and Will deconstruct each image and give feedback on how to improve the work, both visually and conceptually (don't worry, neither one has fangs). Even though these are critiques of other people's work, you can still learn quite a lot!
SVS offers live critiques several times a year, please subscribe to the SVS newsletter to receive updates.
