Art crit. The very words strike fear in hearts of art students everywhere. But you can't truly grow as an artist unless you learn how to take the dreaded crit in stride. As the writer Norman Vincent Peale once said, "The trouble with most of us is that we would rather be ruined by praise than saved by criticism."

This critique was originally held in November 2015. Pro illustrators Lee White and Will Terry critiqued the personal work of 8 SVS students. Each student submitted one image for critique. This is the recorded version of that class.

Follow along as Lee and Will deconstruct each image and give feedback on how to improve the work, both visually and conceptually (don't worry, neither one has fangs). Even though these are critiques of other people's work, you can still learn quite a lot!

I loved watching the critique session. One: I can see that we are in the hands of gracious and fantastic teachers, who still tell the truth, and two: While my art wasn't on display I learned what pitfalls and opportunities I need to look for in my work.
