Art critique. The very words strike fear in hearts of art students everywhere. But you can't truly grow as an artist unless you learn how to take the dreaded crit in stride. As the writer Norman Vincent Peale once said, "The trouble with most of us is that we would rather be ruined by praise than saved by criticism."

This critique was originally held in January 2016. Pro illustrators Marco Bucci and Will Terry critiqued the personal work of 10 SVS students. Each student submitted one digital painting for critique. This is the recorded version of that class.

Follow along as Marco and Will deconstruct each image and give feedback on how to improve the work, both visually and conceptually (don't worry, neither one has fangs). Even though these are critiques of other people's work, you can still learn quite a lot!

About the Instructor

Marco Bucci

Marco Bucci spent seven years working in animation studios before going freelance to pursue his passion of illustration. Since then, he has provided artwork for clients such as Disney, Lego, LucasArts, LucasFilm, and Mattel Toys. Marco now works primarily on picture books, but still retains a penchant for teaching.
