Thank you, Jake Parker for this incredibly comprehensive course on drawing in perspective. My own observation regarding vanishing points is that there are infinite numbers of them. Objects define vanishing points and not the other way around. There are no straight lines in nature. Man thinks and draws and creates in straight lines, though, and that is why cityscapes and room interiors line up with only a few vanishing points. I write this not to contradict anything you have taught because everything you are teaching is correct and very applicable. Instead, I am writing this to answer the question asked by your students, “How do you know where to place your vanishing point?” The answer is simple. The vanishing point is dictated by the object and not the other way around.
