Art Critiques: Illustrating Children's Books
As they say, criticism only makes you stronger! Follow along as pro illustrators Will Terry and Lee White critique work submitted by aspiring kidlit artists.
Art crit. The very words strike fear in hearts of art students everywhere. But you can't truly grow as an artist unless you learn how to take the dreaded crit in stride. As the writer Norman Vincent Peale once said, "The trouble with most of us is that we would rather be ruined by praise than saved by criticism."
This critique was originally held in September 2015. Pro children's book illustrators Lee White and Will Terry critiqued 8 aspiring kidlit artists who had completed the Illustrating Children's Books class. Each student submitted one image based on material from the class, for critique. This is the recorded version of that class.
Follow along as Lee and Will deconstruct each image and give feedback on how to improve the work, both visually and conceptually (don't worry, neither one has fangs). Even though these are critiques of other people's work, you can still learn quite a lot!
