Great for beginners

I liked. It a lot. All instructions were very clear and easy to follow

"Drawing from Reference Images" is a more appropriate title

The title is misleading compared to some of the other courses on SVS that teach drawing from the ground up like Jake Parker's "How to Draw Everything" course - the course is mainly a seminar in drawing from reference images rather than fundamenta...

Essential Starting Point for Drawing!

This is a very good course about how to start a good drawing. Just don't expect it to be a step-by-step guide of how to make a finished, cool-looking picture of a subject you like. It's about how to capture shapes and make a good structure for a d...

I'm super beginner and this was very helpful :D

Daniel Oliveira Zacarias

Doris Latimore Johnson

I was expecting more on basics being explained and demonstrated.

Dawn Allen Ward

As a beginner, found the information in the course very useful. The focus of ‘general to specific’ is the area in which I really need to practice, learning to set the foundation of a sketch accurately before diving in to the detail. Thanks Dave...

I really enjoyed the course and thought the suggestion of breaking things down into large, then medium and finally smaller detailed shapes was very helpful when drawing from reference (or any time in general). I was definitely the person who would...

David is methodical and patient throughout his creation of portraits. Thank you for sharing with us. I learned so much and inspired for my drawings, too.

The course is not bad, present some nice tips to draw things from observation. However, the title is a bit misleading: I actually thought I was going to have a crunch course with fundamentals like perspective, construction, composition, etc.

Shelrie Houlton

Makayla Mayne

They were great tutorials for beginners, however I had to speed up the videos because he was slow at explaining.

Jennifer Garland

Basically teaches you how to break stuff down better and genuinely teaches the FUNDAMENTALS no lie, straight to the point. I'm 16 and am taking lessons here with my parents and I drew a really wicked tiger within the first lesson and it was only 2...

This course is perfect for artists with drawing experience who wants to review the basics. It focuses on simplifying complex subjects into basic shapes and getting the proportions right. This was my first course on SVS and really happy with it! I...

These are the foundational tools to all good drawings and are incredibly beneficial to any and all successful artwork. We will start with simple examples and discuss the tools. • Getting accurate proportions.
  • Working with value.
  • Dealing with complex subjects and perspective.
  • Rendering the figure, a face, and fabric.

What you need:

  • A pencil or something to draw with (Preferably with the ability to erase).
  • Paper to draw on.
